The Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts is an international art museum in Norfolk home to world class art collections from contemporary to anthropological and archaeological themes, housed in a Grade II* listed building designed by Norman Foster.  The gallery sits within a beautiful 350-acre outdoor Sculpture Park which runs alongside the River Yare, on the western side the University of East Anglia campus.

We are delighted to announce that several pieces from Explorers Against Extinction's Extinction Collection will be on loan to the Sainsbury Centre between October 2023 and March 2024 for a major new Climate Change exhibition - you can read more about the exhibition below.

This autumn, the Sainsbury Centre presents Sediment Spirit: Towards the Activation of Art in the Anthropocene.

A timely and responsive exhibition, Sediment Spirit unites local and international artists from the 1960s to the present day who are responding to the climate crisis, in all of its complexities. Artists include: Anj Smith, Tabita Rezaire, Karrabing Film Collective, Richard Deacon, Henry Driver, Derek Tumala, Paulo Nazareth, Salvatore Arancio, Ackroyd & Harvey, Superflex, Roelof Louw, Mario Merz and Joseph Beuys.

Much of the art on display works to translate and transmit the complex science of climate change (data, graphs, maps, archives, and narratives) into a more relatable visual language. It doesn’t just show the physical impact of human-made climate change but also the more insidious effects on our mental and physical health.

Sediment Spirit will be presented as part of the Sainsbury Centre Autumn season of exhibitions and programme on Planetary Adaptations: How do we adapt to an ever-transforming world?
